We prepared some interesting stories for you today!
The family owned Weltevrede Wine Estate, situated just outside the town of Bonnievale, in the Robertson Wine Valley in the Western Cape, is proud to announce the opening of its new recently launched Kapokbos Restaurant.
It was also announced the winner in the Architecture & Landscape and the Innovative Wine Tourism Experiences categories at the prestigious Great Wine Capitals Best Of Wine Tourism Awards (BOWTA) 2023 for Cape Town & the Cape Winelands, held at Weltevrede Wine Estate.
Kapokbos Restaurant, beautifully situated on the Estate overlooking the newly landscaped rose-and-vine garden and named after an indigenous Kapokbos herb found in the veld surrounding the estate, is run by the husband and wife team, Chefs Juan Fourie and Samantha (Sam) Morris-Fourie.
With a fine dining and private cheffing background the Fourie’s have a unique perspective of what works and what doesn’t. They consider a key ingredient to the success of Kapokbos lies in believing in the ethos and the concept of Weltevrede Wine Estate.
“Sam and I are excited about the direction the Estate is heading and really thrilled to be joining the Weltevrede Wine Estate family”, said Juan Fourie. “After years of being nomads, we have now firmly rooted ourselves here and we’ve devised menus that present contemporary country-style cuisine incorporating local tastes, culture and creativity.”
This announcement of the new restaurant comes on the heels of the pioneering Weltevrede Wine Estate’s recent extensive revamp and re-development of the farm’s visitor ‘experiences. With these upgrades Weltevrede now offers a world-class visitor centre that is open for Tastings – a new tasting venue has been added; Underground Tours (world class) where you enter into a world steeped in the history of Chardonnay, old books, artworks, memorabilia and historic exhibits that show its place in history, while highlighting its heritage of winemaking excellence; activities, a new kid’s play area, a beautiful landscaped rose-and-vine garden and of course, the new Kapokbos Restaurant.
Already becoming the ‘go-to’ restaurant in the Robertson Wine Valley area, Kapokbos is open from Tuesday to Friday from 12h00 – 16h00 (last seating 15h00), and from 4th November on Friday and Saturday for dinner from 18h00 to 22h00 (last seating 20h00) serving contemporary country cuisine. Dishes on the season-appropriate menu include the delicious traditional South African Skaap Stertjie with curried pickle onions and Frikkadel with tomato smoor and brandy sultanas, and the ‘oh, I’ll have seconds’ Amarula ice-cream sandwiches with honeycomb – wine-tasting snacks are also available. Glowing reviews have been pouring in – from “great food, scenic views, stylish interior, creative cuisine“, “a revelation of flavours” and “What a treat! Beautiful food with service and views to match” to “Exquisitely presented and indulgently, delicious dishes. I wanted everything on the menu! The venue, ambience, views and our waiter were all superb.”
A member of Cape Country Routes, Weltevrede Wine Estate is arguably one of the oldest South African wine brands still owned and run by the same family – the Jonker family. The Jonker family has been farming here for a hundred years. Now in the hands of Philip Jonker, the fourth generation family winemaker and Chardonnay specialist, the Estate has been inspiring South Africans with wine of the purest quality.
Kapokbos Restaurant upholds exceptional standards of service and high quality food offerings that are on par with the best, melding seamlessly with the ethos of the Breede River Valley’s pioneering Weltevrede Wine Estate well-known to wine-lovers around the world.
