ENTER OUR KAIROS GIVEAWAY

Out&About.africa is giving away a hamper of Kairos Originals products worth R450 – read on to find out how you could be the lucky recipient!

Characterised by a distinctive baobab tree logo that is quintessentially African, Kairos Originals comprises a range of 89 different products that includes soaps, facial care, baby and body care products as well as linen mists.

All reflect the passion of founder, Darry Bottomley, who has developed each and every one by researching natural remedies and working closely with people who have specific skin ailments.

“Kairos Originals was born out of a need for affordable natural skin care products. And with more than 20 years spent handcrafting our quality products, we have seen the benefits that nature has to offer! Our belief is that the earth’s natural ingredients have the power to heal and restore,” she explains.

Her range dates back to 1997 when she began making glycerine soaps. These remain her biggest sellers and many are still included in the range that she sells online, through selected retail outlets and at KwaZulu-Natal’s Shongweni Market. The 22 different varieties – that include sandalwood, rooibos, bergamot and geranium – include a wide range of all natural ingredients including African green clay and cucumber and even activated charcoal. She also uses a wide variety of essential oils.

But Kairos is not necessarily about all things cosmetic. “My Treatment Soap was originally designed for AIDS patients who had many skin issues. These varied from large sores that wouldn’t heal to scaly skin conditions caused by infections or viruses. These customers were also looking for products with anti-fungal properties and something that could deal with dark marks and blemishes,” she says.

One of her most successful formulations to date has been her tissue oil – which was also transformed into a miracle cream. “These are one in the same as they contain the same essential oils. The only difference is that one has a grapeseed base and the other a coconut oil and shea butter base. People have reported amazing recoveries when these are applied to scars, bruises and even burns. Damaged skin and sore muscles have also been helped,” she adds.

The Muscle Soak / Massage Oil is a close relative of these products as they share similar essential oils. One is a soak that includes magnesium while the other contains grapeseed oil. These products have helped many people with gout, fibromyalgia, and aching muscles and joints, exhaustion and tension.

“You ask why these do what they do and my answer would be that the healing power is in the oils. I especially use cold pressed or virgin oils as they still have their healing properties in them. The combinations and plenty of trial and error over 23 years has helped me to come up with the right combinations. Because they are natural, they seep into the skin and don’t stay on the surface,” Bottomley continues.

All Kairos products are made in small batches to ensure quality. These handmade, naturally good products are also not tested on animals. Instead, some very willing humans (family and friends have offered themselves as test subjects) have proved that they do everything that they are claim to do.
